Institutional Effectiveness

Welcome!

Welcome to the Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Institutional Effectiveness site!

The purpose of the institutional effectiveness function is to provide leadership, assistance, and support to the faculty and staff in the process of evaluation and planning for accreditation, accountability, and institutional effectiveness, ensuring the fulfillment of the college mission.

WGTC is committed to the continuous enhancement of its programs and services. To that end, the college employs an Institutional Effectiveness System grounded in data collection and research, with assessment of goals, objectives, and outcomes the key driver in a closed-loop evaluation system. The practical implementation of the system occurs at three levels.

Institutional Level

  1. Evaluation and review activities which examine progress and performance at the macro level with college-wide aggregated date
  2. Recommendations reflect a college-wide continuous improvement perspective.

Program/Functional Unit Level

  1. Evaluation and review activities which assess the degree to which the mission and goals of the program, function, service, or activity were met during the review period
  2. Recommendations reflect efforts to enhance program and unit effectiveness and/or efficiency.

Student Level

  1. Assessment activities which address the degree to which students have achieved the learning outcomes established for the program/subject area
  2. Recommendations reflect efforts to improve mastery at the individual student level.

Assessment reports for each level are completed annually.

The IE department implements its purpose through activities in the following general categories:

  • Review and update the college mission statement
  • Review and update the college policy manual
  • Review planning documents and processes
  • Annual operational plans
  • Internal and external customer evaluations
  • Assessment of expected outcomes
  • Reports for federal, state, and accrediting agencies
  • Institutional research and data analysis

Since the IE processes are ongoing and systematic, the department, supported by faculty and staff throughout the institution, utilizes various methods to gather information, evaluate results, implement improvements, and re-evaluate the use of results. Effective evaluation and planning also relies upon interaction with students and faculty, as well as suggestions from community representatives and members of advisory committees.

Working with assistance and support of the Institutional Effectiveness Committee and in coordination with the units of the college, members of the IE department staff assist in data collection and analysis, distribute information to college-wide points of contact, monitor data analysis and identification of improvement plans, and provide input for management decisions.
