Advisement

Academic Advisement

Effective student advisement is an important function at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. Students are assigned an academic advisor upon acceptance.

It is the responsibility of the student to schedule an advisement session with their faculty advisor prior to registering each semester. The role of the academic advisor is to assist students in making sound decisions regarding their program of study and their career goals. The academic advisor may offer opinions and suggestions relevant to program of study, but the student must accept responsibility for final decisions.

Academic advisors keep regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students and to plan course schedules for the program of study. Students should plan to meet with their academic advisor prior to the registration process for advising and creating an appropriate course schedule.

Academic advisor responsibilities include helping students interpret degree requirements, monitoring academic progress, and preparing course schedules. In addition, the academic advisor may recommend or refer to other offices or agencies for personal, financial, or other type of counseling services to answer questions or solve problems related to academic or career matters.
