Valdosta, GA: Courtney Brinson, Regional Director of External Affairs at AT&T, presented a check for $4574 to Wiregrass Georgia Technical College (WGTC) Foundation South on December 5. Brinson stated, “AT&T is a proud sponsor of student scholarship and retention programs at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. AT&T feels that investing in these students is a wise business decision. The importance of having an educated and qualified workforce is vital to our future.”

With the reductions in the HOPE scholarship and grant program coupled with the reduction in state funding to the college, donations are critical to ensuring that students continue to have opportunities to improve their skills. It is frequently said that “workforce development is economic development” so helping students attend college to develop their skills is a critical investment in our community’s economy.

Every dollar touches the lives of students either through direct assistance with tuition and books or through program enhancements such as new equipment. Unlike most nonprofits, the foundation does not pay salaries for the staff. Instead, the college provides the salaries, which means that all donations are able to support the students and the workforce and economic development efforts of the college.

WGTC has two foundations, one for the southern and one for the northern region of the service area. The Foundation South serves students in Lowndes, Cook, Brooks, Echols, Lanier, and Berrien counties.
