Fitzgerald, GA: The Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Pine Street Adult Education Center would like to congratulate several students who received a full or partial scholarship for the GED testing fees. These qualifying students are working to obtain their GED and were awarded a scholarship to take all or parts of the GED test. “The scholarships are really important to our program because many of our students are unemployed or just don’t have the funds to pay for their GED,” stated Kiva Brownlee, adult education instructor. Students receiving a full or partial scholarship for the GED testing fees include Grant Cockfield, LaTonya Walker, Malcom Black, Heather Haney, Ericka Soto, and Matthew Saniford.

Wiregrass Adult Education Services are offered in eleven counties including Ben Hill, Irwin, and Wilcox. The cost of the GED exams increased this past year causing some financial hardship for those wishing to take the exams. The Ben Hill Community held an “Are You Smarter Than A Wild Chicken?” fundraiser this past year to raise funds that are now used to provide scholarships for the GED testing fees. If you are interested in the services provided by the Wiregrass Adult Education staff or would like more information on the GED exams and the available scholarships, please call 229-423-8200.
