Wiregrass Adult Education Services recognized at state conference

Valdosta, GA: Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Adult Education Services staff recently attended the 2012 Georgia Adult Education Fall Conference in Atlanta. The theme for this year’s conference was “Creating a Workforce for Georgia and a Future for Families”.

Adult Education administrators, instructors and GED testing staff participated in professional development classes, an awards luncheon and adult education planning meetings. The Conference covered current issues including the 2014 revised GED Test, building collaborative partners and a Certified Literate Community, teaching strategies, strategies for implementing technology in the classroom, and strategies for addressing adult education needs in counties with 30% or more of the population without a secondary diploma.

The Wiregrass Adult Education Program was one of seven programs in the state recognized during the awards reception. The program was honored for “Overall Achievement of Educational Gain Benchmarks for FY2012”. This honor recognizes the achievement of the staff in meeting or exceeding all goals set for Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education and English as a Second Language classes as negotiated with the federal government and set by the State of Georgia.

Wiregrass Georgia Technical College provides adult education services in Atkinson, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Coffee, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, and Wilcox counties.
