Wiregrass Vice President for Academic Affairs honored for communication skills

Distinguished Toastmaster Philip Barr awards Dr. O’Meara with the plaque for the 2012 Communication Achievement Award.

Valdosta, GA: Dr. Ron O’Meara, Vice President of Academic Affairs for Wiregrass Georgia Technical College was recently honored by the Valdosta Toasts, a Toastmasters International Club at their annual Christmas Toast held on December 4.

Dr. O’Meara was recognized as the 2012 Communication Achievement Award winner. This award honors exceptional communicators and has been a club tradition for the past 5 years. Sherry Zipperer, current Valdosta Toast President stated, “Dr. O’Meara was selected for his exemplary communication and leadership skills that benefit the greater community. His contribution to the success of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College during the merger in 2010 with East Central Tech and Valdosta Tech did not go unnoticed. Dr. O’Meara promotes community, education and economic development through quality instruction and training focused on local workforce imperatives.”

Dr. O’Meara was instrumental in bringing a new chapter of Toastmasters to the Wiregrass Valdosta Campus earlier this year and is working to expand the club to other campuses in the near future. Past recipients of the Communication Achievement Award have been Mayor John Fretti (2009), Talk Show Host Scott James (2010), Award Winning Journalist and Author Dean Poling (2012), and Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Stuart Mullis (2012).
