Fitzgerald, GA— Irwin County High School student Chasity Golden decided she wanted to get a jump start on her future career. Chasity had dreams of becoming an RN and knew that it would take a college degree to get to that point. She also knew that starting early was a possibility at Wiregrass Georgia Tech. She chose to enter into Wiregrass as a practical nursing student after speaking with Wiregrass High School Services Coordinator, Andrea Fletcher.

Chasity took anatomy and physiology classes at Wiregrass during spring semester while also completing her senior year of high school, and working part time at Zaxby’s. When asked about her experience of being a college student and a high school student at the same time she stated “It’s easy to do if you keep your head up, and never give up. There was always someone there to help me and believe me, I was one lost kitten trying to find my way!”

Chasity noted that is well worth it to take college level classes early to get a head start on your future career. She plans to complete the practical nursing program to become an LPN. After becoming an LPN, she plans to work while she continuing her education to become a registered nurse.

Currently Wiregrass Georgia Tech can offer a high school student four ways to enter college early: dual enrollment, joint enrollment, ACCEL and the Move on When Ready program. Most commonly used are the dual and joint enrollment programs where a high school student either takes a course offered on their high school campus during normal school hours or a student enrolls in a college level course taken in addition to their high school course load.
