Valdosta, GA— Wiregrass Georgia Technical College will begin offering student loans for certain academic programs Fall Semester 2012 in an effort to make a college education more attainable for students. Changes to the HOPE program in 2011 left many students in need of additional financial assistance to help cover the cost of books, fees, and tuition. Wiregrass participation in student loan programs will provide an additional means of financial assistance for some students at a low interest rate.
The college has been approved to participate in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program to offer two forms of student loans. In addition to the Federal Direct Student Loan program, Wiregrass students can apply for the HOPE Grant, HOPE Scholarship, PELL, or use a tuition payment plan.
Tuition per credit hour at Wiregrass is the lowest of any two year institution in the area at just $75 per credit hour. A student taking 12 credit hours per semester would pay $1051 per semester in tuition and fees for most of the programs offered. Financial Aid Counselors on all campuses work with students to manage their financial aid options and minimize their long term debt.
Wiregrass is currently accepting applications for Fall Semester and will be holding a Free Application Day on June 25th at all campus locations. Students interested in applying for Fall Semester are encouraged to attend Free Application Day on June 25th from 7:30am to 6:30pm on the Ben Hill‐ Irwin, Coffee, Cook, and Valdosta Campus as well as the Moody AFB Extended Campus office. For more information on the new student loan program please visit www.wiregrass.edu or call 1‐800‐575‐0567 and ask to speak to a Financial Aid counselor.
