Valdosta, GA: Two local students who recently completed the Dietary Manager program offered at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College sat for and passed the National Dietary Manager Certification Exam through the Association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals (ANFP). The program offered on the Valdosta campus and online, was recently approved by the ANFP as a certified program making it possible for the graduates to sit for this national exam and become members of the organization.

The students, Nicky Shelley and William (Buddy) Boswell, passed the exam on the first try which is quite an accomplishment according to the Program Coordinator LaWanda Smith. About 70% of first time takers pass the exam nationwide. When interviewed about the importance of this certification, Boswell stated “I am going to use this certification to continue expanding my business. I have recently started working with the Lowndes County employees on a wellness plan, and more often now I am helping people with medical issues to create a food lifestyle that will aide in their rehabilitation, quality of life, and not interfere with any medications they are currently taking. This certification is a great asset to my credentials and will help me as I teach people that it is not always what you eat, but how you eat.”

The Dietary Manager program provides students with the skills to manage menus, food purchasing, document nutrition information, ensure food safety, and more. To find out more about this program or the other culinary related programs offered at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, visit
