The Beedazzlers of Lanier County Elementary School won the first Lanier Certified Literate Community Program Adult Spelling Bee Thursday night. They took home a large B trophy as a prize. The event, a fundraiser for CLCP, raised $870.

They went up against five other teams from around the community including the Lanier County Lions Club Literate Lions; The Wiregrass Adult Education Program team, The Graduates; the Leadership Lanier 2014 Fearless Leaders; the LCHS Student Council Fairy God-Spellers; and Louis Smith Memorial Hospital's BEE Healers.

The teams of four to five worked together to spell each word on a white board and then one team member would read the word out loud. There were three rounds with a championship round against the Literate Lions.

All funds raised went to support CLCP which is a program that supports literacy awareness and education in Lanier County. "This was a very successful opportunity to promote the issue of literacy in the community," said CLCP Chair Rachel Hubbard. " We had so much participation from many facets of the community. We plan to make this an annual event."
