Wiregrass students attend leadership conference

Valdosta- Wiregrass Georgia Technical College students representing all four campuses attended the 2013 Student Professional Development Conference held February 8-10 in Atlanta. Technical college students from across Georgia who participate in their colleges’ student leadership council, national technical honor society, and Collegiate DECA programs attend the conference to compete in multiple areas as well as plan for the coming year.

The Wiregrass Student Leadership Council placed first for the second year in a row for the Chapter Display category. The Chapter Display category showcases the college’s student leadership council activities on all campuses. Students Felicia Linton (Valdosta Campus), Pam Tucker(Ben Hill-Irwin Campus), and Shabreka Young (Ben Hill-Irwin Campus) created the chapter display for competition. Yolanda Presley from the Coffee Campus Student Leadership Council placed 2rd in Job Interview. Jennifer Tyler from the Valdosta Campus Student Leadership Council, placed 3rd in Job Interview. Felicia Anderson-Linton from the Valdosta Campus Student Leadership Council, was elected to the Statewide Student Leadership Team Action Team.

National Technical Honor Society student Candace Dean of the Valdosta Campus placed 2nd in Extemporaneous Speech. Collegiate DECA (Delta Epsilon Chi) students Nathan Jackson, and Charles Repess of the Valdosta Campus placed 2nd in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. DECA student Alex Terrell of the Valdosta Campus placed first in Professional Sales/Prepared Business Presentation. Alex will compete in the International Collegiate DECA Career Development Conference held in Anaheim, California in April. He will compete nationally with other technical and community colleges as well as universities.
