Valdosta, GA - Wiregrass Georgia Technical College is proud to announce the recent achievements of two employees. Betty Smith and Sylvia Lockett have been recognized for completing the Manager in Program Improvement certification through the National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium (NAEPDC) and the ProLiteracy organization.

Smith and Lockett participated in the certification process through the Leadership Excellence Academy, a joint program between NAEPDC and ProLiteracy. The two year program emphasizes research, theory, professional wisdom, and best practices in the areas of adult education and literacy. This certification signifies membership to an elite group of professional managers in adult education programs.

Betty Smith is the Director of Adult Education Services for Berrien, Brooks, Cook, Echols, Lanier and Lowndes counties. Sylvia Lockett is the Director of Adult Education Services for Atkinson, Ben Hill, Coffee, Irwin, and Wilcox counties.

Wiregrass Georgia Technical College provides free adult basic adult education programs in the areas of reading, writing, and math skills as well as English as a Second Language and GED® preparation programs. Classes are taught in eleven counties served by the college and GED testing services are offered on multiple campuses.
