Wiregrass to hold GED® graduation ceremony

Fitzgerald, GA—The Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Adult Education Services department would like to invite the community to the summer GED Graduation Ceremony. The ceremony will take place on June 14 at 10:00 a.m. in the Charles Harris Center at the Ben Hill–Irwin Campus. The ceremony will honor more than 50 students that have achieved their GED credentials including a mother and her daughter, and a brother and his sister making this a very special family event.

The commencement address will be given by Stephanie Garcia who was named the 2013 Georgia EAGLE (Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education). This program recognizes and honors students from across Georgia that have demonstrated exceptional achievements in adult education.

Stephanie was born in Tacoma, Washington and now resides in Bonaire, Georgia. She has past work experience in the airline industry and also the auto finance industry. As a recent graduate of Middle Georgia Technical College Adult Education Division, Stephanie was a participant in the Accelerating Opportunities Program where she was able to take both GED preparation classes and Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) courses simultaneously. As a result, she obtained her GED credentials and six college credits toward her Business Administrative Technology TCC. Inspired to attend the adult education program after being laid off from work, Stephanie has become a member of the National Adult Education Honor Society, and Phi Beta Lambda, an organization for students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields. She is currently enrolled at Moultrie Technical College in the Surgical Technology Program and is maintaining a 3.5 GPA.
