Wiregrass GOAL Winner, Brittany Lecates
Valdosta – Brittany Lecates, an Early Childhood Care and Education student at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College from Valdosta, has been named as the college’s winner of the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL).
The announcement was made at the college’s GOAL recognition meeting on January 14, 2014 at the Valdosta Campus of Wiregrass.
Lecates was chosen by a panel of local leaders over three other nominees for the award. The runners-up were Alex Terrell, Valdosta, Marketing; Jennifer Walker, Valdosta, Accounting; and Charles Williams, Valdosta, Computer Information Systems.
GOAL, a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia, honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students. Local GOAL winners are selected at each of the state’s 24 technical colleges as well as one Board of Regents college with a technical education division.
The announcement of Lecates as the Wiregrass Tech GOAL winner was made by Dr. Tina K. Anderson, Wiregrass President.
Lecates will now proceed to regional judging on March 10. All college GOAL winners will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Atlanta for two days in April. Nine regional finalists, three finalists from the three regions, will be announced in Atlanta on April 24, 2014. A panel of leaders from the business, industry and government sectors will interview them and choose one to be the 2014 state GOAL winner and the recipient of the GOAL medallion.
The grand prize also includes a new car, courtesy of Chevrolet the statewide corporate sponsor of the GOAL program.
Lecates shared, “I am honored to be chosen as the 2014 GOAL recipient for Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. Meeting the other nominees has been such a wonderful experience, and I am grateful for this opportunity I have been given. I look forward to representing Wiregrass throughout the following year.” Lecates has goals set to become an elementary school teacher in order to give struggling students a sense of hope and encouragement that will allow them to face their fears. She wants children to understand their worth, and become confident, independent, and hard-working young adults. Lecates has even turned a hobby into somewhat of a side business where she applies make-up for teenagers and adults for special events.
Lecates is the wife of Tyler Lecates of Allentown, Pennsylvania. He is a Helicopter Crew Chief in the United States Air Force. Lecates chose to attend Wiregrass Tech to earn her degree and pursue a career as an Elementary Teacher.
