Valdosta, GA – Governor Nathan Deal has announced that individuals who further their education in early childhood care from eligible colleges between January 1, 2014 and July 1, 2017 could receive a financial award. This new program from the Governor and the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning includes approved Early Childhood Care and Education programs at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College.

Students who earn their Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or technical certificate are eligible to receive a one-time payment of $1200. Wiregrass Georgia Tech offers a technical certificate in CDA Preparation. This certificate along with the completion of field experience allows the student to apply for their CDA credential. The courses for the CDA Preparation technical certificate program can be completed in one semester.

Students who complete the diploma or associate degree in Early Childhood Care and Education at Wiregrass are eligible to receive a single payment of $1,500. The Early Childhood Care and Education diploma and associate degree programs are offered on the Ben Hill-Irwin, Coffee County, and Valdosta Campuses of Wiregrass. Some courses are offered online. The program can take between one and two years to complete. Students who are enrolled in the diploma program and are HOPE Grant eligible will also receive up to $500 per semester in grant funds from the Georgia Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grant. This program began in 2013 and was expanded in 2014. The amount awarded is dependent on the number of credit hours per semester the student is enrolled.

“At Wiregrass we are very proud of our Early Childhood Care and Education program. We have instructors who bring a wealth of knowledge to the classroom as we prepare future paraprofessionals, teachers, and more,” shared Dean of Professional Services, DeAnnia Clements. “This is an excellent incentive for our current students as well as those who are considering entering the education field.”
