Douglas, GA— Wiregrass practical nursing student Leigh Anna McBride was awarded the 2014 Coffee Regional Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship. The annual scholarship is given to an allied health student on the Coffee Campus of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. All allied health students are eligible to participate, and must submit an essay to the Auxiliary Committee.

This year’s essay topic was “Why I Want to Work in the Healthcare Field.” In her essay, Leigh Anna wrote that she knew the medical field was for her when she experienced a tragedy in her life when she lost her mom. She witnessed the caring and compassion of the nurses and knew that was the career she wanted to pursue. Leigh Anna was awarded a $500 scholarship from the committee.

Leigh Anna was encouraged by her nursing instructors to apply for the scholarship. She will graduate from Wiregrass in December 2014. The Coffee Campus offers several programs in the health care field including practical nursing, EMS professions, medical assisting, patient care assisting, nurse aide, and phlebotomy technician. Summer Semester begins May 19 and new student applications are being accepted now.
