Wiregrass radiology students receive their pins

Valdosta, GA— Wiregrass Georgia Technical College radiology students on the Valdosta Campus received their pins at the pinning ceremony held May 1, 2014. The pinning ceremony is symbolic of the conclusion of the students' formal Radiology training and denoting these students are now eligible to take their national certification, the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist. The 17 students will graduate on May 22 during the Commencement Ceremony to be held at Mathis Auditorium in Valdosta.

Students receiving their pins include Shannon Burke, Andy Conerly, Christa Cosigny, Nicole Dunlap, Marcy Evans, Whitney Gaffney, Candice Mauldin, Christie Sandford, and Brandon Schmidt all of Valdosta; Wendy Mixon and Betsy Wilson both from Hahira; Cindy Hodges and Lisa Turner both from Adel; Jasmin McGee of Madison, Fl; Montanta Merritt of Fitzgerald; Wendy Mixon of Hahira; and Tonya Mizell of Douglas.

Several other radiology students received awards during the ceremony. Receiving the Robert B. Quattlebaum Awards sponsored by the Radiology Associates of Valdosta was Katrina Secson of Adel, Ashley Shuman and Christie Sandford. Secson received a $500 scholarship; this award is for a junior radiology student to assist with tuition and books. Shuman and Sanford both received a $250 scholarship which will help pay for the ARRT Registry. The Franklin Eldridge Scholastic Award, sponsored by South Georgia Radiology Associates of Valdosta, is given to the student with the highest GPA during the radiology program. This year was the college’s first tie and it was awarded to Cindy Hodges and Shannon Burke. The Outstanding Student award is voted on by employees of each clinical facility and awarded to the student with the “best overall performance” during the radiology program and those students were as follows; Coffee Regional Medical Center- Betsy Wilson, Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center- Montana Merritt, Hughston Sports Clinic- Shannon Burke, Imaging Center of South Georgia Medical Center- Candice Mauldin, Lanier Campus of South Georgia of South Georgia Medical Center- Christa Consigny, Smith Northview Hospital– Andy Conerly, and South Georgia Medical Center- Marcy Evans.
