Wiregrass Foundation North Awards Scholarship

Fitzgerald, GA- Each year two graduating seniors from Ben Hill, Irwin, and Wilcox counties are selected to receive the John Henry Dorminy, Jr. Scholarship for $500.00 from Wiregrass Georgia Technical College Foundation North. The John Henry Dorminy, Jr. Scholarship fund was established in 1984 by Mr. Dorminy, a local entrepreneur.

This year Irwin County High School (ICHS) senior Cameron Leighton was awarded the scholarship for Irwin. He is planning to attend Wiregrass in the fall and enroll in the welding program. Cameron was noted by his ICHS Teacher Ira Tucker as “an active member of the Irwin FFA Chapter participating in numerous FFA fundraisers, leadership activities, and community service projects. He is an exemplary CTAE student and was recently chosen as the Agriculture CTAE student of the year.”

Wiregrass will be holding a Free Application Day for Fall Semester on June 26th. Interested students who apply in person on this day at any campus location will have the application fee waived. Individuals are encouraged to bring proof of residency, and official high school or GED transcripts as well as official transcripts from any college attended. Fall Semester classes begin August 19th.
