Wiregrass 5th Annual Blood Drive in Memory of Ben McMahan

Fitzgerald Georgia – Ben McMahan was well known as an outdoors-man and a very popular man who lost his life at the young age of 28 to cancer. Diagnosed on November 13, 2009 with Gastroesophageal Adenocarcinoma, he battled this dreaded disease with every inch of his being until he passed away on April 8, 2014. His family, in gratitude for the blood donors who helped him to fight his battle, hosts this annual drive to encourage more people to donate blood to help others like Ben, whose life depend on it.

The memorial blood drive will be held at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College located at 667 Perry House Road, Fitzgerald on Tuesday, July 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. You can make an appointment by visiting oneblooddonor.org and enter code #18967 or call 1-88-936-6283. Walks-in are also welcome. All donors receive a wellness check-up of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and iron count, including a cholesterol screening, plus a OneBlood Tervis tumbler. Generally healthy people age 16 or older who weigh at least 110 pounds can donate blood. Photo ID is required.
