Social media marketing centers on efforts to create and distribute content through social media outlets that attracts attention and encourages readers to share it with their social network. This technical certificate of credit program outlines the fundamentals of computer/ internet use, marketing and promotion, and social media marketing. Marketing through social media has become increasingly popular, and this TCC will allow students to examine the fundamentals of this growing phenomenon.

Topics include effective communication in a marketing environment, role of marketing, knowledge of marketing principles, marketing strategy, and marketing career paths.

Topics include: history of the internet and social media, social media dashboards, legal issues of social media, outsourcing vs. in-house administration, and the current social media ecosystem including applications in the following areas: communication, collaboration/authority building, multimedia, reviews and opinions, and entertainment.

Topics include: purposes of promotion and IMC, principles of promotion and Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC), budgeting, regulations and controls, media evaluation and target market selection, integrated marketing plans, trends in promotion, and promotion and communication career paths.

Topics include job acquisition skills, interview techniques, computer application skills, cash management, legal aspects of using credit, and personal finance.

Weekly Contact Hours: Lecture -1.667; Lab – 2.667 Pre-Requisites: None Co-Requisite: None This course introduces the fundamental concepts, terminology, and operations necessary to use computers. Emphasis is placed on basic functions and familiarity with computer use. Topics include introductions to computer and digital terminology and usage, operating systems, Internet and digital communication, word processing applications, spreadsheet applications, database applications, and presentation applications. Please note that this course may not transfer to a 4-year institution. Students should check with their transferring institution for transferability of courses. COMP 2000 may be taken in place of COMP 1000 if it is required by a transferring institution.
