Valdosta, GA – Kathy Ballard has been named the new Air Conditioning Technology Program Coordinator for Wiregrass Georgia Technical College on the Valdosta Campus. Ballard has been working in the field of heating and air conditioning for over 20 years. She is a graduate of Valdosta Technical College (now Wiregrass) and began working in-field for a local company as well as apartment complexes maintaining their equipment. In 2009, she returned to Wiregrass Georgia Technical College as an adjunct Air Conditioning instructor.
“Air Conditioning is a program that is greatly needed in our communities, and we are thrilled to have Kathy join our team full-time as the Program Coordinator and instructor,” shared April McDuffie, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. “We are excited to watch this program continue to grow and meet the needs of our local industry needs.”
The Air Conditioning program will be offered 11:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Thursday. Evening classes run from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm Monday through Thursday. Students can enroll in a diploma or certificate program; these programs can take a year and a half or two semesters to complete. This program is also considered in critical demand in our communities and qualifies for the HOPE Career Grant. Those who qualify could receive additional funds to pay for college.
“My biggest goal for the Air Conditioning program is to see it grow, and students have the knowledge and confidence of becoming an Air Conditioning technician,” shared Ballard. She is available for tours of her college lab area.
This program is accepting new students for Fall Semester. Fall classes start on August 16. Apply in person in the One-Stop Center or online at https://www.wiregrass.edu.
