VALDOSTA, GA — Wiregrass Georgia Technical College is expanding opportunities for students and community members to earn college credit by announcing that College Level Examination Program (CLEP) testing is now available at the college’s Valdosta Campus.
The first CLEP testing session at the Valdosta Campus will be held Wednesday, October 14, at 1:30 p.m. Seating for the inaugural testing session is limited, and individuals interested in taking an exam are encouraged to register early.
CLEP, administered by the College Board, allows individuals to demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of academic subjects and potentially earn college credit for knowledge they have gained outside of the traditional classroom. For students who qualify, CLEP can provide a faster and more affordable pathway toward completing a college credential.
“Adding CLEP testing to our Valdosta Campus gives our students and community another valuable option for moving their education forward,” said Julie Drexler Director of Testing and Enrollment Reporting. “Whether someone has gained knowledge through previous education, work experience, military service, or independent study, CLEP provides an opportunity to demonstrate that knowledge and potentially turn it into college credit.”
A passing CLEP score can result in three or more college credits, depending on the examination and the credit policies of the institution accepting the score. By earning credit through examination, students may be able to bypass certain introductory courses, reduce the amount of time needed to complete a credential, and lower their overall educational costs.
The new Valdosta Campus testing option also expands access for military personnel and veterans. Eligible military personnel and veterans testing at the Valdosta Campus can register through the Wiregrass testing portal using the “CLEP (Military)” group and will not be charged the Wiregrass registration fee. All CLEP testers must also register through the College Board and obtain the required CLEP ticket number or voucher before arriving for their examination.
For non-military testers, registration includes a $25 Wiregrass registration fee in addition to the CLEP examination fee. Registration through Wiregrass may be completed up to two business days prior to the scheduled examination, subject to seat availability.
