VALDOSTA, GA – Wiregrass Georgia Technical College recently wrapped up another successful Medical Careers Summer Camp, providing students ages 11–16 with an exciting opportunity to explore careers in healthcare through hands-on learning and interactive experiences on the Valdosta Campus.
Held July 13–16, the four-day camp introduced students to many of the rewarding career pathways available in the healthcare industry. Participants explored state-of-the-art training labs, met with faculty and healthcare professionals, and gained firsthand experience with the equipment and technology used in today's medical settings.
Throughout the week, campers rotated through several of Wiregrass' healthcare programs, including Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Medical Assisting, Medical Laboratory Technology, Dental Assisting, Surgical Technology, Neuromuscular Massage Therapy, Radiologic Technology, Pharmacy Technology, and Nursing. Each session was designed to give students an engaging, age-appropriate introduction to the skills and responsibilities associated with each profession.
From learning basic medical techniques to experiencing simulated healthcare environments, campers discovered the many opportunities available in one of Georgia's fastest-growing industries.
"This camp is about inspiring the next generation of healthcare professionals," said Jennifer Ray, Dean of Academic Affairs-Health Sciences. "By allowing students to experience these careers at an early age, we hope to spark curiosity, build confidence, and help them begin envisioning their future. Healthcare continues to be one of our region's greatest workforce needs, and we're proud to introduce young people to the many opportunities available through technical education."
The Medical Careers Summer Camp reflects Wiregrass' ongoing commitment to workforce development by connecting students with high-demand career pathways and providing meaningful educational experiences outside the traditional classroom.
Parents praised the camp for its engaging activities and the opportunity it provided their children to explore potential career interests in a supportive, hands-on environment. Many campers expressed excitement about returning to Wiregrass in the future to continue their education.
