Students in the eleven-county service area for Wiregrass Georgia Technical College can enjoy their summer by having fun and learning at the college.
The Valdosta Campus will host a Beats and Bytes Summer Camp during the week of June 9-12 from 8:30 pm. to 12:00 pm. This music production and coding camp is designed for students aged 11-16. The cost of the camp is $75 per student, which includes materials and snacks. Students will learn to write code that makes music, use beats and loops to create their songs, collaborate and share tracks with other campers, and explore careers in audio engineering, music tech, and computer science.
"This summer, our camps are giving students a hands-on look at the future of work. From exploring careers through Virtual Reality to making music with code in EarSketch, we’re showing how creativity and technology can open doors—especially in the skilled trades we offer right here on campus," shared Wiregrass Director of Innovation, Educational Outreach Project Manager Michael Fleming.
The Cook Workforce Development Center hosts Virtual Reality Summer Camps for students ages 11 to 16. Kids Camp will take place from June 23 to June 26, running daily from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The cost of the camp is $75 per student, which includes materials and snacks. Students will learn to explore career pathways in healthcare, skilled trades, and technology using state-of-the-art VR headsets and curriculum, the basics of entrepreneurship and branding, how to use an xTool laser engraver and a 3D printer, and gain insight into turning ideas into products.
The Ben Hill-Irwin Campus will offer a Virtual Reality and Heavy Equipment Camp for students ages 11 to 16. The camp will take place from June 2 to 5, running daily from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, with a cost of $75 per student. This fee covers all necessary materials and snacks. Camp attendees will explore careers in healthcare, welding, HVAC, and more through state-of-the-art VR headsets and curriculum, gaining hands-on experience with the Caterpillar motor grader simulator. Campers aged 14 and older have the option to gain practical experience with a real-world mini excavator and backhoe. Please note that spots for this camp are limited.
The Coffee Campus will offer a Young Builder Summer Camps for students ages 11-16. This is a beginner construction and carpentry camp held during the week of June 16-19. The times are 8:30 am – 12:00 pm, and the cost is $75 per student and includes materials and snacks. Campers will explore the college’s 53-foot Lowe’s Gable Grant Construction Trailer. Throughout the week, participants will learn foundational construction skills—including sill plates, foundation headers, framing floor joists, roofing, and more. Each camper will also design and build their own woodworking project to take home.
