Salon and Spa Support Specialist, TCC (ST11)  Technical Certificate of Credit

The Salon and Spa Support Specialist Technical Certificate of Credit introduces courses that prepare students for careers in the field of Cosmetology as Shampoo Technicians. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes specialized training for safety, sanitation, state laws, rules and regulations, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, structure of the hair, diseases and disorders of the hair and scalp, hair and scalp analysis, basic hair and scalp treatments, basic shampooing techniques, reception sales, management, employability skills, and work ethics. Graduates receive a Salon and Spa Support Specialist Technical Certificate of Credit and are employable as a Cosmetology salesperson, salon manager, or salon owner.

Program Outcomes: Upon completion of the program, students will proficiently perform basic shampooing techniques. They will demonstrate professional ethics by implementing safety and sanitation regulations. Additionally, students will effectively utilize interpersonal skills and showcase comprehensive product knowledge in professional settings.

Careers: Hairdressers, Hairstylists, and Cosmetologists; Shampoo Technician, Cosmetology Salesperson, Salon Manager, or Salon Owner.

Weekly Contact Hours: Lecture - 4 Lab 2 - 0 Lab 3 - 0 Pre-requisite(s): Program Admission Co-requisite(s): None Introduces fundamental both theory and practices of the cosmetology profession. Emphasis will be placed on professional practices and safety. Topics include: state rules, and regulations; state regulatory agency, image; bacteriology; decontamination and infection control, chemistry fundamentals, safety, Hazardous Duty Standards Act compliance, and anatomy and physiology.

Weekly Contact Hours: Lecture - 1 Lab 2 - 2 Lab 3 - 3 Pre-requisite(s): None Co-requisite(s): COSM 1000 Introduces the fundamental theory and skills required to create shapings, pin curls, fingerwaves, roller placement, blow dry styling, thermal curling, thermal pressing, thermal waving, artificial hair and augmentation, and comb-outs. Laboratory training includes styling training on manikin. Topics include: braiding/intertwining hair, styling principles, pin curls, roller placement, fingerwaves, skip waves, ridge curls, blow dry styling, thermal curling, thermal pressing, thermal waving, artificial hair and augmentation, comb-outs, and safety precautions.
