Lathe Operator, TCC (LP11)  Technical Certificate of Credit


Campus Locations: Valdosta

The Lathe Operator certificate program prepares students to use lathes, lathe set up, and lathe tool grinding. Emphasis is placed on cutting threads, boring holes to precise measurements, and cutting tapers. Topics include an introduction to machine tool technology, blueprint reading for machine tool, and basic and advanced lathe operations.

This program qualifies for the HOPE Career Grant.

Program Outcomes: Upon completion of the program, graduates will possess the knowledge and skills to effectively read and interpret blueprints for machine tool applications. They will be proficient in performing both basic and advanced lathe operations, as well as evaluating concepts and procedures for lathe operations.

Weekly Contact Hours: Lecture - 2 Lab 2 - 4 Lab 3 - 0 Pre-requisite(s): None Co-requisite(s): None Introduces the fundamental concepts and procedures necessary for the safe and efficient use of basic machine tools. Topics include: machine shop safety, terminology, use of hand and bench tools, analysis of measurements, part layout, horizontal and vertical band saw setup and operation, drill press setup and operation, and quality control.

Topics include interpretation of blueprints, sketching, sectioning, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and assembly drawings.
